A Voice For Lymphedema

ALA Won Aaward

I am very pleased to advise you that ALA won the "influencing health policy" award. I am so proud of what our association has been able to do to help all lymphedema patients in Alberta.

Alberta Lymphedema Association

The Alberta Lymphedema Association (ALA) is a charitable organization founded in 2003 by a team of people who recognized the need to help people living with, or at risk of, lymphedema. A learning association committed to ongoing education of its stakeholders, ALA works to make a difference and empower affected individuals and their families to help manage this condition. ALA works from the patient standpoint.

Your Support

The Alberta Lymphedema Association relies upon your support to continue its work to promote awareness and education of Lymphedema within the medical community and general public of Alberta.

Alberta Health Service is now covering lymphedema treatments for persons with primary and or non cancer lymphedema

ALA has succeeded in working with AHS and advocating for patients to cover lymphedema treatments for primary and or non cancer lymphedema patients.

What Is Lymphedema

Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the interstitial tissue that causes swelling, most often in the arm(s) and/or leg(s), and occasionally in other parts of the body. Lymphedema can develop when lymphatic vessels are missing or impaired (primary), or when lymph vessels are damaged or lymph nodes removed (secondary).
